Yoga to me is the art form where you get the opportunity to focus your mind and body in the present moment, forming an intimate relationship within yourself where magic can happen. Let me be your guide to discovering that sacred space.
I look forward to having be a part of my tribe, my community, my kula. Namaste friends. ~ Melissa
A little background…
Yoga has been an integral part of my life, with its practice and teachings ebbing and flowing with me for well over 17 years. In 2017, I decided to let yoga take the front and center stage in my life. In the beginning of 2018, I embarked on my 200-hour registered yoga teacher training through the Soma Yoga Institute in Costa Rica.
I immersed myself in all things yoga; the alignment, the history, the philosophy, all things asana and so much more, and returned to Canada, where I carry my teachings with me day-to-day. That includes teaching yoga at community events, workshops or at centres, and also during my day job as the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ Clean Sweep Program Manager*.
When partaking in my yoga classes, I want my students to feel at ease in mind, body, and spirit. Whether you’re a student looking for a yummy restorative flow or a blood pumping power session, my goal is to make you feel welcomed, restored and reconnected with your body and breath. My hopes is that when you leave my class, you will also feel kula (the Sanskrit word for community, clan or tribe), and I welcome you to mine.
*Sidenote: The CSP is a social program designed to provide individuals in my community, some who may be experiencing a certain degree of homelessness, with the opportunity to participate in meaningful daily activity through a unique work environment.
