Today is Valentine’s Day, and congratulations to those who find themselves in the warm embrace of another, enjoying roses, cinnamon hearts, chocolates, champagne, perfume and lingerie. You make me sick. This post isn’t for you!
It was some guy named Stendhal who said, “Very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love.” And for those of you who haven’t completely given up yet, I have compiled a list of ways to find yourself a date, or at least a one-night stand.
Today, yours truly met his future ex-wife, Lethbridge’s "So You Think You Can Dance Canada" superstar, Tara-Jean Popowich.
Now you may think I had this planned all along, but it was fate that brought us together! It just so happened that on the day when I got my license back oil changed, she was at Milestone Mazda receiving her prize of a Mazda 3 and signing autographs for small girls and old people.
Tara-Jean, perhaps one day we’ll get to polka. Until then, know that I am always watching you…
Last night, an @reply on Twitter introduced me to the love of me life – Kate a.k.a SexyKat. She’s a fashion design student with big knockers who, ironically, likes to wear nothing! And she’s from Lethbridge.
Even sweeter – so not only is she from our beloved city, but so is her “sluttier” Latina friend Cindy! What luck I have!
It seems that Vancouver musician Adaline is winning more than just the heart Robert Pattinson, but rather fans from across the world. Beyond the +30,000 plays on her MySpace page, she is now featured in CHARTattack, the Vancouver Sun and even the National Post.
“What is most touching is that many of you have said that even though you came across my website because of my chance meeting with Robert, that many of you are staying because of my music. This is why I make music — so I can share it with you. So thank you for the kind words — for telling me which songs are speaking to you — for passing on my website to your friends and family. I am so grateful.” – Adaline
As a token of her appreciation she is also offering a free MP3 download of her hit single, “Whiter/Straighter.”
For those who don’t have a clue, Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen in Twilight and Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. And he sparkles in the sun.
Vancouver musician Shawna Beesley (a.k.a. adaline) is reportedly romantically-linked to Robert Pattinson after meeting at a Juno Afterparty at Richards on Richards, a popular music venue in Vancouver.
“I’m just happy to have this moment with you.”
At that point, he pulled me into an warm embrace…
Okay, maybe I skewed that just a little, though they did rub shoulders together!
But how does any of this relate to Lethbridge? Well, Shawna happens to a friend of a friend whom I briefly met some time ago. She’s a wonderfully warm and talented person, who recently played at The Slice earlier this month. It saddened me to have missed that show, but at least I have her music to listen to.
Now if you’d excuse me, I’m off to roll myself in diamond dust and watch Twilight all over again. Oh Edward, you’re so mysteriously beautiful.
Yesterday, I implored my friends on Twitter and Facebook to answer this question. Here are some of the responses I received:
Kim: I loved the the people, the scenery!!!, the college, the nightlife, the shopping, the warmth.
Karla: the city being surrounded by nature! Coulies! It being small enough to initiate some sort of change…am I dreaming?
Damian: THE WIND! (haha thought I would be the first person to make that terrible joke) I like how it has a smaller town feel but not being extremely boring like a smaller town. smaller town.
Conrad: The landscape. I love the coulees in the fall and summer.
Wendy: it is very easy and time-efficient to get from one side of town to the other. In fact, it doesn’t take much effort to get anywhere in town…easy peasy!
Kristine: dollar giant… and the thing I hate is the stench. smaller town.
Martin: friends and family that reside there.
your work is cut out for you ruzek.
My work certainly is cut out for me! I was hoping for more responses than just that, but it seems that apathy runs rampant. That or I don’t have any friends. Probably the latter, but your mom says I’m cool. And Kristine, I don’t smell THAT bad.
So what do you love about Lethbridge? Let it be heard!
